Questions you've probably been asking
Moissanite is worth buying for its lasting beauty, cost-effectiveness and conflict-free origins. As a lab-created stone, moissanite involves no mining and its origins can be easily traced, making this a sustainable choice of gem. Moissanite is significantly lower in pricing than diamonds of the same size and quality, allowing you to purchase your dream ring for the fraction of the price! With a high clarity grade and a hardness rating of 9.25-9.5 (second only to a diamond at 10), your moissanite stone is extremely durable and will retain its sparkle throughout everyday wear. At Cullen Moissanite, we are so sure of this that we provide a lifetime warranty to guarantee the lasting brilliance, colour and clarity of your gorgeous gemstone. Read more
Moissanite is not a fake diamond, but a real, beautiful gemstone in its own right. Although often compared to a diamond for its similar appearance, moissanite is a lab-created stone with high clarity, hardness and fire. Unlike cubic zirconia, which is a man-made stone used for fake diamonds, moissanite is extremely durable and is suitable for a lifetime of everyday wear. The dazzling sparkle and lasting beauty of moissanite makes it the perfect alternative for customers who want the look of a diamond without the expensive price tag or questionable ethics. Read more
Absolutely not! Due to its diamond-like appearance, many people believe the misconception that moissanite is a fake diamond when it is in fact a high quality, beautiful gemstone in its own right. Moissanite is becoming an increasingly popular choice of stone in engagement rings due to its dazzling beauty, durability, ease of customisation and affordability.
While moissanite has a diamond-like appearance, it is not a fake diamond and is in fact a beautiful, unique gemstone. When light hits a moissanite ring, the surface of the stone sparkles with a rainbow, almost disco ball effect. This makes moissanite more vibrant than a diamond, but it is not to the point of looking fake. The sparkle and fire of moissanite is what attracts moissanite lovers and here at Cullen Moissanite, we say the more sparkle the better! Read more
A moissanite diamond does not exist. Despite having a similar appearance to a diamond, a moissanite is a real, beautiful gemstone in its own right. First discovered in a meteor crater by Henry Moissan in 1893, moissanite is now produced in labs, making this gem both an affordable and ethical choice of stone. Moissanite stones are bright and eye-catching, with a high clarity grade, colourless beauty and sparkling fire. With a hardness scale of 9.25-9.5, moissanite is incredibly durable and is guaranteed to last a lifetime of daily wear. Available in a variety of sizes and shapes, moissanite provides buyers with more freedom for custom designs and can be purchased for the fraction of the price of a diamond of the same size and quality. Getting a moissanite engagement ring is one of the best gifts you could ever receive! Though similar to a diamond in appearance, moissanite is a man-made stone – making it one of the most ethical, sustainable and affordable engagement ring choices out there. Not only does moissanite have a unique extra sparkle, it is also extremely durable and is suitable for a lifetime of daily wear. The lasting durability, beauty and sustainability of moissanite makes it a popular choice for those who want to make responsible, cost-effective jewellery choices without sacrificing on quality.
A 1 carat moissanite is worth approximately $660 AUD but will vary depending on the cut of your stone. You can find pricing for moissanite loose stones of every shape and size here.
Yes, moissanite will pass a diamond tester. Moissanite and diamonds conduct heat in very similar ways, and since diamond testers measure thermal conductivity, moissanite passes as a diamond.
A specific Moissanite tester that uses electrical conductivity can be used to distinguish the difference between a moissanite and a diamond.
However, the easiest way to find the difference from a diamond and moissanite is to use a loupe to look through the top of the jewel at an angle. Moissanite stones will show two slightly blurred lines, indicating a double refraction – this is moissanite’s unique attribute.
Moissanite is an extremely durable stone and will not become cloudy, discolour or change its appearance for its whole life.
Over time, a build-up of oils and dirt on the surface of your stone can block light from shining through the stone but this can be easily removed by giving your ring a good clean.
Yes, lab grown diamonds will pass a diamond tester.
Since lab grown diamonds have similar thermal conductivity and chemical properties to real diamonds, they will record a positive test on a diamond tester.
No, moissanite does not lose its sparkle. Due to its superior hardness, clarity and refractive index, moissanite will remain bright and sparkly forever.
Over time, oils and dirt can build up on the surface of your stone but this can be easily cleaned away, either by a professional or at home.
At Cullen Moissanite, we guarantee your moissanite’s lasting brilliance, clarity and colour with a lifetime warranty – so you never have to worry about your moissanite losing its shine!
At Cullen Moissanite, we believe the best moissanite brand to buy is Radiant Beauty.
Radiant Beauty is an Australian company that ensures their moissanite has been expertly crafted and graded and can be traced back to the manufacturer. As our sole source of gemstones, Radiant Beauty gives us the confidence and ability to provide lifetime warranties on all of our stones.
When you purchase branded, high-quality, Australian made jewellery, you can be confident that your piece will hold strong and sparkle for a lifetime!
Yes, you can shower with a moissanite ring. However, the more you come in contact with soaps, dirt and chemicals, the faster oils and dirt can build up on the surface of your ring.
This can be easily cleaned off but to ensure a longer-lasting sparkle, we recommend avoiding washing dishes or doing heavy housework whilst wearing your ring.
Due to low levels of regulation in the moissanite industry, it is easy for low quality, unbranded stones to flood the market. Though often sold at cheaper prices, these stones come from unknown sources and are vastly inferior in colour and cut.
To guarantee the beauty, quality and authenticity of your moissanite, you should only consider purchasing branded moissanite.
At Cullen Moissanite, we source all of our stones from Radiant Beauty, an Australian company that ensures their moissanite is professionally manufactured, carefully selected and graded by experts.
No. Moissanite is one of the most durable substances on earth and is highly resistant to scratching or breaking.
With a hardness rating of 9.25 – 9.5, moissanite is harder than all other gemstones besides a diamond and can only be scratched by a diamond or other moissanite stones – which is unlikely to occur!
